. . . . this morning. Hmmm. Lovely, no, for an arachnophobe like me?
I tell you, this cat is one dead kitty (spider is already a goner, although it did move a little bit. But with 2 legs missing, it's hard to get around).
I cannot find any information at all on this species on the web, but my guess is a Lebanese tarantula . All I know it’s one of the Theraphosidae family, but that’s where the story ends. It could be a Chaetopelma olivaceum or an Idiops syriacus , but I go for the first. These are the only two types of tarantulas we have in Lebanon.
I will now have to go out an buy a year's supply of PiffPaff in order to fumigate the house from top to bottom. Maybe by some freak-trick of nature, this thing will clone itself in my house, which would result in me having to sell the house.

I hate spiders espcially ones that big!
If I was you, I would head to the gas station instead, buy a few liters of gasoline, spread them around the house and light a match.
Eww!
On the contrary, you should feel safe knowing that your cat is a skilled hunter, protecting the house from tarantulas.
I've had these spiders in my house twice a year for the past 16 years--always when the weather is changing. A bite is a like a bee sting--Khaled's been bitten before. If you're allergic to bee stings you're allergic to these spiders' bites. Since my kids will not allow me to kill anything other than a mosquito or cockroad, I place a tupperware over them, a magazine or newspaper underneath, and release them outside.
cockroach of course is what I meant.
But in Holland we see these spiders on Discovery Channel every evening, together with snakes and alligators. All we know is: one bite will most certainly kill you. Enough venom to kill a family in these spiders. Brrr.... I tell you, Lebanon is a dangerous place....
Oke, wie is die grapjas? Jacob? Of Ysbrand?
Oh my god, that is hideous! At least you saw it dead and not alive!
EEeeeeeekkk!! I freaked out when I saw a couple of ants and baby cockroaches in my house..I can't imagine finding THIS!
I had this very same spider in my house the other day! It fell from within the A.C and onto my closet although I didn't realize it at the time. I just heard a thump. A few hours later, I saw it scurry from across my bed. I don't think I've ever screamed so loud in my life!
These tarantulas make great pets!!
That is indeed an example of Chaetopelma Olivaceum, one of the few species of Tarantula in the Middle East. Though not fatal, their venom does cause moderate pain, and like all Tarantulas in the eastern hemisphere, they are very aggressive. Its adult legspan usually reaches 10cm/4in, but can get to be up to 14cm/5.5in.
This species is the most widespread of the Middle Eastern tarantulas, and is found in the following countries:
Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Greece (some of the southeastern islands), Lebanon, Jordan, Israel (where it is most common), West Bank, Gaza, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.
