Yes, an obsession, you might say, but skies never fail to amaze me. As I got out of the supermarket this afternoon, at 5, I noticed that the Lebanese skyline had some pretty amazing clouds. It reminded me of Holland, and I took this picture.
The Dutch skies are apparently quite famous. Or actually, it is the light and the cloud formation that draws the attention, as can be seen in paintings by Dutch masters from the 17th and 18th century. “Landscapes depicted illusions of great space and distance with the focal point on the light of a dawning day or on stormy darkening skies.”
There’s even a guy that wrote an entire in-depth analysis on the Dutch weather in the 17th century, meteorological conditions and the Dutch masters’ reproduction of the clouds. I would read it if I had the time.

The supermarket visit was a very happy one, I might add, as I won my very first price ever (apart from the one that I won when I was 9, in a drawing contest, and I entered in the category of 7-year olds. My very first lie, and I still remember it). I got 20% off my shopping bill, which was a whopping 68,000 LBP (which is € 37,28). The cashier lady said it was the computer’s decision. I don’t care whose decision it was, I was very happy.
