The gas prices have dropped with 5,000 LBP, but there is no rest for the wicked. Look what the mailman brought by this morning. In person. With registered mail. They’re going through a great deal of motion for this one.
It’s my second speeding ticket, but the first one where I got caught by radar (in Lebanon, that is). I had sort of given up on those stories that the government had installed radar all over the place, because I hadn’t received a ticket. That was until today.
A 50,000 LBP fine for speeding on January 9, 2011. Where? I cannot quite figure it out. It says something about the main road (or is it public road?) in Jounieh. Was I in Jounieh on January 9? It was a Sunday, and I went skiing that day. My guess is, yes, I passed through Jounieh that day. Apparently I drove 90 kmph. I don’t doubt it for a minute, considering that that stretch of road is a highway.
Or is it? What’s the speed limit there anyway? Are there signs? Maybe I should check it out next time. It’s in a town, so maybe the speed limit is only 50 kmph?
Considering that it took almost 2 months before my January 9 ticket got in, my guess is – since I drive that stretch of road about once a week - I’ve got another two months of weekly '50,000 pound' speeding tickets coming my way.
Ooff. Maybe I should go for some overtime at work.
I love how they include your full name, PLUS your poor mother's name, Elizabeth, PLUS your father's name... which I can't make out.
ReplyDeleteThere's another argument for why a speeding car should be pulled over and issued a ticket on the spot. At least you learn your lesson right then and there.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, now we have all the necessary information to stalk you :P
Yeah that whole Mother Father name on every document is really alarming! I always get uncomfortable when they ask me my parents names. Why bring my parents into this?!?
ReplyDeleteLesson learned I guess? The radars are real!
@ Danielle
ReplyDeletesimply because there are loads of "Michel Karam"'s and thousands of "Mohammed Haddad"'s.
We do not have second and third surnames like in many european countries.
sorry about your ticket... but u didnt get in Jounieh, you got it in Rayfoun, which is right before faytroun on the way to faraya,,, hope this helps to refresh ur memory :D
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right, it was Rayfoun. And that is NOT a highway. More like a narrow two way street in a sleepy village, and which I careened through at 90 kmph. Shame shame shame. Mea Culpa, I paid my 50,000 and will better my ways.
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as the names go; my dad's name is Evert, which was translated into 'Afreet' (when you pay the fine at the post office they translate it from Arabic back into Latin script). I though that was a good one. How's that for a father; Afreet?
well that's a hefty fine, be glad you don't live in the Netherlands were they have camera's on every corner, operated by a governement employed morrons.
ReplyDeletethe youngest son got fined for speeding on the way to school, on his moped, 316031,56 LBP.
