Of course, as is usual in Lebanon, what started as a strike over living conditions then became riots in certain areas, with teenage boys burning cars, tyres (and I think I even saw a carpet on TV), looking for fights and egging on riot police.

Just think of Beirut as a dynamic system, and try to imagine what would happen if it adheres to the universal laws of nature. Beirut, just like any other dynamic system, will strive towards maximum entropy. Maximum entropy means: minimum stored energy, also known as chaos. Still with me? Beirut strives towards chaos.
And there is a lot of energy stored in the system today. You have refugee camps with Palestinians packed together like sardines, Nahr el-Bared blown to pieces only last year. And just a few miles away you have all the luxury and parties at the beach. Syria and the US both add more energy to the system. Why would this last forever? The universal laws of nature predict that this energy will dissipate, go away, and bring turmoil, chaos, and maximum entropy. Y.
