Today was the annual Beirut Marathon. It was quite uneventful, but these days, we actually like uneventful. We love uneventful. The only downside of ‘uneventful’ is that the longer nothing happens, the closer we are to somebody being blown up or something.
The pink bride was there again, and my dad (92) met his Lebanese counterpart, an 84 year old man who was also walking the 10K, and at the finish line they gave us medals dating from the marathon of 2006. Now how’s that for getting screwed?
I think we improved our time with 5 minutes (2:27). As I said; uneventful.

Yes, but in 2006 we did it in 2:32!. En pa heeft zijn enkel verzwikt. Waar? Voor de deur van mijn huis, toen we terugkwamen van de marathon.

Yay! I made it in 1:09:07, when they still had 2007-medals for the finishers... but i missed the pink bride :(
the 'pink bride' is the daughter of the president of the marathon, may al-khalil. why do u think there is so much attention around her? like mother and daughter :)
For a marathon claiming to be about unity, showcasing Beirut to the world, national wellbeing etc I would expect organizers to be more honest. First off there was no way 18,000 people there. Maximum 10,000. So typical to try and impress. Also what is this with medals of last year????? Where is the marathon spirit when you are asked to run and you pay to run and you get cheated by the organizers who are to cheap to buy enough medals? Shame on them. This is another example of showing the world how we do things wrong and pretend theyre not wrong.

you have to understand, the whole idea is to give you something interesting to talk about. Hence by handing out 2006 medals, they handed you a story on a plate.
2007 medals would have been just too boring, so they were actually doing you a favour.
