Another West-Beirut city part, known as ‘Corniche
el-Mazraa’, although it’s official name is quite different: Boulevard Saeb
Salaam. I don’t know why we change all our street names. I live on a street that
is called after a building that used to be at the bottom of the street, but
that is no longer there. And that name is not even remotely close to its
original name. The original name comes from a jail building that was once here,
but no longer. In this place it is all about what once was.

very curious - what street do you live on and what was it's original name?
ReplyDeleteI wonder why you manage to squeeze "East" and "West" in almost every post you write!
ReplyDeleteIs it a terminology used by Beirutis nowadays? Its definitely not
Is the area called Karakol Druze?
ReplyDeleteI still remember the Qalaa which was a prison located where the girls official scholl is now. The Qalaa was torn down in the mid-70's.
ReplyDeleteThis is the new Barbir underpass which replace the bridge.
